Going Postal

Monday, August 10, 2009

Yes, folks...I went postal today. I dropped off an estimated 65% of my invitations at my local USPO. Ahh! My lovely FI was there to memorialize the occasion. He thought I was nuts for taking pics...but hey it was a proud moment for me.  Here are a few shots.

A test weigh in...

Forking them all over...

Discovering I overpaid $.13 on each of my postage...argh!

The final send off...she was a very agreeable postal worker...the "zilla" didn't need to come out :)

Invitation =Sleep Deprevation

Sunday, August 9, 2009

This as been a very tiresome week. I have been slaving over the wedding invites and I'm not even done yet! AHHH! I even pulled and all nighter and only cracked through 60%. I am very proud of them, but will be happy when I can move on to other aspects of the wedding planning. While I can't show you the invites until they go out I will tell you that they are silk. Originally I wanted to order invitations like these:

While these aren't silk they have a beautiful embellishment.

Another one I really liked of this one:

These are gorgeous silk boxes...but they are extremely expensive and heavy/ It made no sense any way you looked at it.

Because of cost issues and practicality I decided to make the invites myself. When I began the process I wasn't sure where to begin. But I knew the fabric store would help. It was such a blessing going there because a sales girl, who was so perky and happy, really asked great questions and made even better suggestions. She even picked the color and told me about 50% off coupons. Se offered to bring me one the next day, but I found it online. I KNOW God sent her on my path. I have been to the store several times since and have never seen her again. Once I selected the silk it was on to the craft store for paper. This was the tricky part. I eventually found the paper I wanted at Michaels...but each one only sold 20 sheets of it and it took almost a month to special order it. So in desperation I traveled to Michaels in the greater DC area to find just what I needed. It was insane! To make a very long story short God had my back and made what could have been a disaster an inspiring and fun process. So as I continue to grind it out over the next week pray for me. I will post pics of the invites once they are received by our guest. Until then here is the RSVP stamp and the invite stamp for your viewing pleasure.

The Little Dress That Could!

Monday, August 3, 2009

I have had a very...very hectic weekend...so I didn't have a chance to blog. Since I have neglected you for so long...I have a little treat; my 1st wedding dress fitting! It took place over the weekend at Priscilla of Boston and let me tell you I was up until 4 o'clock in the morning sweating bullets. Why? Glad you asked. I was afraid it wouldn't fit. I know that is silly...but alterations are costly and time consuming. With the wedding nearly two months away, I knew that was not the option I wanted and thankfully didn't need.

Of course, I could not supply you with any real pics...so they are cropped and inked...but I think they are still nice to view. By the way, I found this dress two years ago online and when I made an appointment in April to try it on...the moment was so magical. Edmee also added to the drama as she refused to let me leave without it. I know it was God urging me that day to call the shop. Otherwise I would have not done it when I really needed to. It was such a great experience.

The fitting was also a dream. My mom and Edmee are always so much fun...when we get together, we get together. Both of them are so supportive and generous with their help. Edmee was the photographer for the hour. My mother was...well..she was "the mother of the bride". She really likes to go by that title :)

Well, with that said, when the seamstress zipped up the dress; all I could do was stand in shock and awe. The dress looked better than I remember. Not only that but it fit! So here's to the little dress that could...

(Walking out of the dress room after try it on)

(My cute mother admiring my dress...poor baby had dental surgery two days before...nothing could stop her from this)

(Spinning around in my dress)

(Looking in the mirror at the dress and veil..sorry I can't show more)

(My teenie tiny seamstress working hard at my veil)

(I look like my dad's family in this photo)

(My mom and seamstress...so short!)

(Seamstress admiring her bustle)

(My mom is in the bottom right corner watching the seamstress fuss over the dress)

(You know who that is by now)

(Favorite shot of the day... Edmee made me take it and I really have to thank her... the full pic catches so many details)

(She had the nerve to try on her shawl and shoes in the bridal mirror! The moment was so cute though.)

Guess Which One I'll Be Wearing

Designer Wedding Dresses and Gowns | PriscillaofBoston.com

I have a secret. I found my wedding dress two years before Chris and I are to wed. Yup...I was one of those girls. I wasn't always that way...but when I knew God told me he would be my husband in a dream, I fully immersed myself in that reality...I mean dream. You can blame my mother and Edmee for the coaxing to find one. I remember it like it was yesterday when I stayed up late exploring the endless possibilities of bridal attire. Back then, I had no idea what my wedding would be like, but I knew the dress would help me set the tone.

This dress was an early favorite, but as reality and the real vision for the wedding set in, this look became a bit much for me. Who knew I was a more low key bride...certainly not I! Also, this is a dress that wears you and I wanted the dress to compliment me, not the other way around.

This dress was also in the running...until I saw another bride wearing it on a TV show. She looked like she could barely walk in it. Besides that you need to be a stick to really pull this off and by a stick I mean a size double 0.

This simple dress also was a very big favorite...but in the end I decided I really wanted something with more punch. However the simplicity of this dress appealed to me. Can you see my progression to the mermaid style?...wink...wink

Just so you know, my dress is from this company: Priscilla of Boston. Can you guess which one? Ha! They have hundreds of gowns so good luck. I will tell you that none of the gowns above made the cut. Hopefully you will get to see the big reveal on our day. I also need to begin discussing accessories and rehearsal dinner attire. Till then...peace.
